Since 2016 and especially during the 2020 pandemic, more and more Americans have bought travel vehicles. So many that there are shortages of motorhomes, campervans, RVs, and RV parts in most of North America.

The RV Industry Association predicts that new shipments of travel trailers and motorhomes will reach their highest level in 2021, with about 533,356 units being sent to dealers and customers by the end of the year.

RV industry outlook 2022

The Motorhome Market was worth USD 24.16 billion in 2021 and is expected to reach USD 39.81 billion by 2027, with a CAGR of over 8% during the forecast period (2022 - 2027).

The spread of COVID-19 and the following shutdowns have hurt the market for motorhomes in several countries. The adverse effects of the pandemic can be seen in the first few months of sales in the primary market in 2020 and 2021. But the need for motorhomes started to pick up speed.

Now that campers are choosing safer motorhome vacations, this growth is likely to continue in the years to come.

Over the next few years, Motorhomes will become more popular worldwide because people want to travel in comfort and stay in large groups.

The market demand for towable and motorized recreational vehicles is driven by the fact that people are moving away from traditional vacation packages and toward road trips.

Also, strict regulations on vehicle emissions are pushing people to switch to electric and hybrid recreational vehicles, which is growing the market.

Motorhomes are also cheaper than other common ways to get away, which is another reason they are a good choice. In these years, people have become more interested in motorhomes because of the benefits we've already talked about, and this trend is likely to continue during the estimated time frame.

But the market's growth is expected to be slowed by how much it costs to rent a motorhome.

In 2020, North America had a significant share of the global motorhome market. This was because more and more households owned motorhomes (primarily millennials), and more people wanted to rent motorhomes in the region.

What is a motorhome, and why do people like them so much?

Before talking about the are motorhomes becoming more popular, this is another considerable thing. A camper van is a recreational vehicle you might not know about. A Class B Motorhome is also a minor type of motorhome. Camper vans are built on van chassis, as the name suggests.

This makes them more maneuverable and better on gas than Class C or Class A motorhomes, which are more extensive.

Compared to bigger RVs, camper vans can also go to more places. Because of this, they are suitable for traveling in cities or camping in the middle of nowhere.

Even though camper vans are small, they can have everything you need while away from home. Most camper vans have galley kitchens, comfortable beds, and even bathrooms.

During the early days of the pandemic, these features made them a good selection for first-time RV owners who wished to keep traveling but stay away from people.

Owning a camper van and becoming part of the van life community has a lot of unique benefits.

The camper van has become more popular for many reasons. A big draw of van life is being able to travel more and have more freedom with your schedule.

Enjoying the journey is a part of van life, whether going to places you've always wanted to see or just getting away to relax and recharge.

A camper van lets you focus on your hobbies, another perk. Even though camper vans are small, they have room for your gear, and many of them have racks for bikes or bags.

Becky is an expert on camper vans, and her Becky's B Van Adventures series on YouTube shows what they can do. Whether you like to watch birds or go snorkeling, a camper van can help you do what you love.

This way of life is about unplugging and getting back in touch with yourself or nature, so people who live in camper vans enjoy the peace of traveling off the grid and away from other people.

But if they want to meet people who share their interests, they can go to camper van rallies. Almost every state has some rally or community event for people who live in RVs or vans.

These are some examples of things you can do and communities you can join:

Descend on Bend is a big gathering of van lifers, overlanders, and other people who love the outdoors. It takes place just outside of Bend, Oregon. Traves and thousands of acres of national forest are all around the site. There will be stargazing, camp workshops, potlucks, daily yoga, live music, activities for kids, and more at the event.

Vanessa is a festival for people who live in their vans in Utah. During the weekend event, there are concerts every night. People come from all over to show off their camper vans, sell things, and go to workshops about van life. This event is also suitable for families because it has a playground and different activities for kids.

TinyFest is a gathering of minimalists who show off their creativity by living in vans, tiny homes, and other small spaces. These events happen all over the United States and are a great way to meet other tiny house dwellers and learn from them. For people who love DIY vans, these festivals are a must-see.

Fulltime Families is a group of RVers with rallies for everyone. With 26 branches like "medical nomads," and more, it's easy to find friendly, like-minded people who love living on the road as much as you do. Even though this community isn't just for people who live in their vans, everyone who wants to camp is welcome. There are rallies in the US, Canada, and Mexico. Fulltime Families often posts on Facebook and puts on significant events for the whole community throughout the year.

There are places to camp with RVs at many music festivals. Events like these can be a great way to meet other van lifers who like the same kinds of music as you do and bond over it. If you like electronic music, you can camp in an RV at Electric Forest in Rothbury, Michigan. During the whole weekend, this festival has a lot of musical performances, as well as activities and art that make it a truly magical time.

One of the biggest travel trends is camper vans, which are easy to spot. You can see these RVs everywhere, whether reading a travel magazine or scrolling through Instagram. During the pandemic, Gen Z and Millennials entered the RV space significantly. Because of this, the demand for smaller RVs has gone through the roof. According to a study by the RV Industry Association, the number of people who own RVs has grown by more than 62 percent in the last twenty years. The number of 18- to 34-year-olds who own RVs has developed the most; they now make up 22 percent of the market.

Read on to learn more about camper vans' history and why these small motorhomes have become something a new generation wants to live in.
